OUR STORY

It all started with an exciting and unexpected discovery...
In 2008, while working on our family’s mussel lease in Albany’s Oyster Harbour, we discovered Akoya oysters growing wild and far south of where they were thought to exist. It was an unexpected and exciting find that quietly sparked a small pearl farming venture in Western Australia’s Great Southern region.

The oysters were later farmed in the harbour for several years, primarily for food. Alongside that, two small Akoya pearl harvests were completed, producing luminous pearls with a refined scale, shaped by the cold, southern waters they came from.

Akoya pearls haven’t been commercially farmed in this region since.

Carrying the Story Forward...
My name is Melanie. I was part of that early chapter, and I now carry it forward in my own way. Today, I’m the only one still working with these pearls, selecting each one by hand and setting them into simple, timeless jewellery from my small studio in Albany.

This is a finite collection. Once these pearls are gone, there won’t be more.
This collection may be finite, but working with these pearls has grounded me in a slower, more intentional kind of making.

Jewellery has always been part of my story. I studied it years ago, but coming back to it through these pearls brought a new kind of clarity. Some settings I craft myself; others I source, but each piece is assembled by hand, with care and attention.

There’s no rush. No big production. Just small releases, made quietly, one at a time.
